This depends on the type and condition of your existing driveway. It should be laid on an appropriate sub-base of either asphalt or concrete.

Resin-bound is an eco-friendly, highly porous solution for ground surfacing. It is a choice of decorative aggregates mixed with specialist resins then hand trowelled to give a smooth flat surface suitable for driveways, paths and patios.

Resin bond is laid in a different manner to resin-bound materials. It involves applying a layer of resin to the existing surface to which aggregates are then scattered on top of. This gives a non-porous surface, which has a coarser finish and leaves a certain amount of loose stone on the final surface.

We say your new resin bound system is weed resistant rather than weed free. Whilst nothing will grow up through the surface, air born seedlings may land on top, causing a small amount of growth. We recommend applying a weed killer once or twice a year if this should happen.

It is normally recommended that a waiting period of 48 hours passes before driving, parking or placing any plant pots on your new driveway but walking across is allowed usually after 2-3 hours.

Resin-bound driveway is the recommend surface type for a slope driveway

Resin Bound driveways are water permeable, allowing water to pass through the small gaps between aggregates and resin. Resin-bound systems also bring other benefits such as a smooth, flat finish and low maintenance. On the other hand, Resin Bonded driveways are non-permeable.
