Tarmac Driveway Repairs In North London
Many automotive oils, such as petrol, diesel or even brake fluid, can 'dissolve' the binder of tarmac and there's no way of 're-sticking' the aggregate back together. Further, the contaminating oil will seep and spread, degrading all the tarmac that it contacts.
Given a few days, a petrol leak will 'eat' its way through a 75mm thick tarmac driveway; a screwdriver or stiletto heel will easily penetrate the previously 'set' surfacing and before long, the now unbound aggregate will begin to be scattered everywhere. And once a hole appears in a tarmac surface, it just gets bigger and bigger as the edges 'crumble'.
How we repair tarmacadam driveways in North London
Contaminated material is removed by cutting out the affected area to at least 100mm back from the contamination. A power saw floor saw angle grinder or even a hammer and bolster can be used to cut out the tarmac in a neat and tidy fashion, preferably a rectangle or octagon. For a full tarmac repair, the contaminated tarmac must be dugout, and the surrounding material excavated back to the cut line.

North London Driveway Repair Services - Frequently Asked Questions
A good crushed gravel base beneath the surface is the secret to a long-lasting driveway. The base is the foundation for a durable driveway, making it critical to pick the right base material. Installing crushed, granular based gravel on a compacted subgrade is the best start to a strong base.
One of the main reasons why your block paving sunk is because the drive was not done properly. In most cases, the reason is ground preparation. Your company probably didn’t dig enough out. To get a good block paving, the company setting your driveway needs to dig out down to good solid ground.
Before you start, make sure to select the right sealant for the specific type of paving you have – concrete or clay. There is a wide range of sealants available and you would be best advised to select one that is specifically suited to your type of paving, to minimise issues from arising.
Despite their name, all-purpose sealants are actually largely ineffective, offering a one-size-fits-all approach, as opposed to a more targeted tackling of weed growth. Select the sealant that will give you the effect you are looking for: matt, wet look, damp look, low sheen or neutral.
In terms of cost, you really do get what you pay for. Generally speaking, the more expensive the sealant, the better it will be.
We have huge experience and knowledge of what would be ‘best’ for your situation in terms of functionality and budget and can nearly always suggest something that will enhance your garden, pathway, patio or driveway, we would love to come around to your house and give you our advice and supply you with a competitive quote.
Block paving laid on a subbase is stronger than concrete itself. You should expect it to last a lifetime as long as due care is taken with your driveway in the form of regular maintenance.
